The questions, “How many days a week do you homeschool” or “How many hours does it take to homeschool” and “What is an average homeschool day like?” are questions that we are going to answer in this article. Providing response of interviewing over 100 moms who are currently homeschooling their children.

Now, the number of hours required to homeschool your child is solely dependent on each state in the US, and the time dependents solely on the child.

Like I said in the Homeschooling Pros and Cons, the good benefit of homeschooling is that the child gets to learn at his/her own pace without being rushed to complete the curriculum and that determines the number of days and hours.

Mom A

S&T: How long do you home school your child? and “Homeschool hours per day”

Mom A: I homeschool my child 3 days a week with 3 hours of learning. This is my homeschool schedule:

Mondays: Core Subjects(7-10 am) with 45 minutes break.
Tuesdays: Core Subjects(7-10 am) with 45 minutes break.
Wednesdays: Sports and Field trips
Thurdsays: Core Subjects(7-10 am) with 45 minutes break
Fridays: Extra Curricular Activities

Mom A: Sometimes my child gets slow in learning when it comes to maths so I give him extra time on Saturdays to help him understand the difficult tasks.

Mom B

Mom B: I homeschool my child 4 days a week with 2 hours of learning. This is my homeschool schedule:

Mondays: Core Subjects(8-10 am) with 45 minutes break.
Tuesdays: Core Subjects(8-10 am) with 45 minutes break.
Wednesdays: Core Subjects(8-10 am) with 45 minutes break
Thursdays: Core Subjects(8-10 am) with 45 minutes break
Fridays: Extra-Curricular Activities

One thing I noticed about Mom A and Mom B is that, they give out time for extracurricular activities to help their child not only grow in-class activities but to grow in morals and leadership.

Mom C(How many days a week do you homeschool)

Mom C: I homeschool my child 4 and a half days a week with 3 hours of learning. This is what my homeschool schedule looks like:

Mondays: Core Subjects(8-10 am) with 45 minutes break.
Tuesdays: Core Subjects(8-10 am) with 45 minutes break.
Wednesdays: Core Subjects(8-10 am) with 45 minutes break
Thursdays: Core Subjects(8-10 am) with 45 minutes break
Fridays: Extra-Curricular Activities
Saturdays: Revision of Core Subjects(10 am)

From the analysis of Mom A,B,C you will find out that most moms homeschool more than 3 days a week. This sports and trips includes visit of other homeschoolers.

Average Homeschool Days:

From the statistics of welltrainedmind, it was recorded that the average homeschooling is about 5 days a week with 3-4 hours per day.

It was recorded that 17.21% homeschool for 4 days, 26.11% homeschool for 4 and a half days a week, 37.39% homeschool for 5 days a week.

4.45% homeschool for 6 days, 0.85% homeschool for 7 days, 3.26% homeschool for 3 and a half days while 0.59% homeschool for 3 days.

Can you start homeschool at any time?

Just like I said in the beginning, check out the homeschool laws of your state and adjust it to fit you and your child’s learning pace so that you can have the time to do other things.

Some laws allow that you homeschool for 3 days a week for a full year or 5 days a week every two months with a free month interval.

So, everything is solely dependent on your state law and your child’s learning pace.
