The common app is free although some schools require an additional fee when applying to them which ranges from 30 – 100 dollars. With the common app, you can apply to about 20 colleges and more.

  • Sign up using a Common App.
  • Write a list of all the colleges you wish to apply to especially those that use the common app.
  • Register and prepare for your exams which are either the SAT or the ACT so that your scores will be received by the registered colleges.
  • You will have to carry out research to know what every school on your list requires, so you can plan ahead.
  • You must not forget to write activities that you are good at because this would help you get admitted quickly
  • Ask your teachers for letters of recommendation; this must be done at an early stage so that your teachers can give you all the information you require without being in a hurry.
  • Prepare your essays: Many colleges will ask you to write a supplemental essay, so it is best if you choose one of the 7 college essay prongs.
  • Gather information about your parents or your guardian as this will be required.

Note: The common app normally starts in the month of August and ends on  1st November for early decisions while the regular decision ends on 1st January.

The coalition app was launched in 2016. It is an application similar to a common application.

The coalition app can be used to apply to several colleges and universities which includes over 900 schools, unlike the coalition app which is used by over 140 schools or less.

Coalition applications can help students with financial issues obtain financial aid, scholarships, etc, unlike common apps. It is also free for students to use although some schools require some additional payment just like the common app.
