This is most likely the most critical step in applying for a Sweden Student Visa in 2022. Students must have applied to and been accepted by a Swedish university.

In such instance, you will receive an acceptance letter confirming your admission, and it is with this acceptance letter, you can begin your application for a Sweden Student Visa.

Applicants must meet certain conditions to be eligible for the Sweden Student Visa. Below are some of the conditions:

  • You must have applied for a full-time program at your desired university.

The result regarding your visa and residence permit result is sent by email, and you will be requested to schedule an appointment to pick up the official paperwork. Your university will also receive the official decision document.

Because the average waiting time is 2-3 months, you should apply for a Sweden Student Visa as soon as possible. When applying for a visa at the embassy, you must bring the original documents.

Requirements for a Sweden Student Visa 2022?

If you wish to apply for a residence permit in Sweden, you must present certain documents. Before you start the visa application, we also recommend that you cross-check more than once that you have all the necessary documents:

  • At the period of applying for the Sweden Student Visa, an applicant must provide a passport valid for a minimum of 6 months. Also, the passport must have been issued within the last decade of the application.
  • Students must own a letter of enrollment from a Swedish university confirming the duration of the course and that the first installment of the fee has been paid (in total).
  • The applicant must be aware that this must be a study period equivalent to 30 credits.
  • Applicants will be charged a two-semester fee if their first semester does not equal 30 credits. (Although this is not always the case)
  • Proof of financial capacity: This is confirmation that you have enough money to pay for the course and support yourself while in Sweden. This could be a governmental or private scholarship, a student loan, or personal funds in SEK 8,190 per month of stay in Sweden, based on a minimum of 10 months per year.
  • You will be required to provide proof of health insurance if your stay is less than ten months. However, if you want a much-extended stay, you will benefit from the required health insurance when you arrive in Sweden.
  • You will also be requested to prepare a 1000-character (150-word) essay on why you chose Sweden as your study destination. There is no set format for this, but you must explain what Sweden offers that your country does not.

It is important to note that providing all certificates is unnecessary. The system would require only the most recent qualifications and work experience details.

If you desire to provide information on past qualifications, you must send a copy of the necessary documentation.

Conclusion

Non-EU/EEA citizens wishing to stay and study in Sweden must apply for a Sweden Student Visa or a residence permit. However, what determines if you need a student visa or a residence permit is the duration of your stay in the country.
